Published: January 17, 2008
Kendra has been singing since she was three years old when she started with the church kids choice. Her father, Kenneth Smith, Sr., taught her to sing. Her father, Kenneth, and mother, Tasha Smith, write Kendra’s music. Kendra hopes to one day go to college and become and professional gospel singer.
“I love to sing and share my talent that God has given me with people; especially the elderly that are sick, shut in and those that are discouraged. I love to minister to people through my music and hope that it inspires them and encourages them to seek God first in their lives,” says Kendra.
An A/B Honor Roll student and member of the Gifted and Talented Class, Kendra lists her favorite singers as Shirley Ceasar, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, and Lee Williams. She enjoys cooking, watching television, riding her bike, and of course, singing.
Kendra’s singing skills are in high demand as she has at least one booking and often more per month (except for November) forthe rest of 2008. This Saturday, she will be performing at Celebrate Main Street at 11 a.m. Her past performances are numerous.

1) Tell me about your relationship with your daughter;
My daughter and I have a great relationship with each other, My daughter understands the importance of respect and discipline that I require as her father and she also knows that I'm there for her as a friend when she needs to talk. I also understand the importance as her father that I must provide, protect and be patient in her life daily. We enjoy many activities together such as; the movies, football games, Dillon Motor Speedway, Mr. Mark's Fun Park and most important attending church on Sundays at Mt. Herman Church of God. C) Kendra loves to sing Old Time Gospel and Hymns 3) Tell me more about your daughter... 3. A) Kendra favorite subjects are Math, Reading and Science B) Kendra's other talents are basketball and reading and doing puzzles C) Her dreams in the future is to perform with Yolanda Adams and Shirley Caesar 4. Kendra is Daddy's girl because she loves to be with me no matter what I'm doing whether its working in the yard, watching TV, or just riding in the car. My relationship with my daughter is special because she has a lot of my personality within her and we understand each other when it comes to the music aspect and what we want to achieve I love to have singing battles against her and when we write her music and just listening to her opinion about what she thinks will work and what wont I'm proud of my daughter first of all because she loves to worship the Lord, Second is that she understand in order to get somewhere in life you must put work into it to get something out, and last but not least that Kendra is very humble in what she does I am working personally to help Kendra fulfill her dreams by keeping her focus on God and teaching her to be obedient, also with her new Cd release I'm her Manager/Promoter and I'm continuing to try to get as much exposure for her so that her talents can be spreaded worldwide and bless as many people who are discouraged and to help them seek God in their lives. I also work with her vocal training but I'm seeking professional help through prayer. I'm so proud of my daughter because when she sings she just gives her all and she enjoys what she does, because it blesses me when I see people that are excited for her and that it touches them. It also makes me feel as if I have done a pretty good job so far in raising her the right way. 5. I feel my role as a father is to teach and be a positive role model for my children that when they become of age and out on their own that the things I instill in them will help them to make good decisions and become independent productive citizens in today's society. Also to teach them financial responsibility such as tithing and wealth building so that they will independent and not dependent on anyone and pass it on to their children. With parenting girls its a whole different world than parenting boys, with girls you have to be more protected them and aware of daily activities that they are involved in and socializing encounters, you also have to be ready for those unexpected questions....Thank God for their mother!! with a boy you have a lot more understanding , because you pretty much have experience everything that he's got to go through and you can relate a whole lot better. I thank God for giving me knowledge and understanding to be a strong minded and providing father for all my children and blessing me with four beautiful children that are healthy, respectable, and gifted with many different skills. The toughest thing about being a dad is seeing another child who doesn't have a dad in his/her life and no role model to follow The biggest blessing about being a dad is moments like this when your children excel and do things to make you proud of them and show that your teaching hasn't gone in vain My hopes for Kendra is that she continues to worship God through her singing and that she can reach as many people in this world to make a difference in their lives as she has in my life I have two boys, Kenneth Jr. who is a sophomore at South Carolina State University majoring in Forensic Sociology and marches on the Marching 101 Band as a percussionist. Isiash is 13 year old and resides in Dallas, Texas with his Mom. Isiash loves to play video games and he plays on the junior league football team at school.. I have one other daughter (Ebony) she is 8 years old and attends East Elementary School in Dillon, South Carolina and sings background for Kendra occasionally. Ebony loves the outdoors and likes math and science in school, she also is an honor roll student. Last but not least the one who makes it all possible and helps hold things together when I'm not there, my wife Tasha Smith who is employed by Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Fork, South Carolina and pursuing a degree in nursing. Tasha loves to write music for Kendra and help compose her music. I am so proud of all the accomplishes that all my family achieved by trusting in God and staying focus. STAFF Smith to perform at Florence Church Eight Days A Week
Kendra, it's evident with your progress that God has His hands on your path. Just remember Proverbs 3:5-6, and let that be your daily confession. Faithfulness, humility and patience are the traits God desires. Always keep them in your possession.

Kenneth is raising money for his daughter, Kendra, by way of the New York-based Hustle Up Streetball Team. The money is going toward funds to support a singing tour for Kendra, a local gospel talent.
The reason behind the cause
Kenneth first discovered Kendra’s talent while working on a song at the piano. “I had a problem with a song ... and she started singing,” he said. Kendra helped her father finish the song, and Kenneth started to sing in local churches.
This past April she released an album of gospel songs.
He wanted to take Kendra on a small tour along the East Coast, but he ran into funding problems and began looking for fundraising ideas. His answer came in the form of an orange rubber ball.
“I have a friend that lives in Columbia, (and) I told her about Kendra (needing) money to perform,” he said. “She was one of the representatives for (a streetball team). She said, ‘What do you think about bringing them in and making money for the both of us?’”
A team called Hustle Up Streetball was born.
Streetball legends
Actively touring since 2004, the Hustle Up Streetball team travels the nation as well as the world, playing local streetball teams and often recruiting those players who have shown considerable skill to join them on tour.
Players are selected at each location, explained Hustle Up team member “Spyda,” and then the best are chosen to join the team on tour.
Along with playing basketball, Hustle Up Streetball players devote time to every city they visit.
The concept, said Spyda, is to go into a neighborhood and spend time getting to know the people there. The players might, he explained, “go to a local park and have a barbecue and play ball.” The idea, he noted, is to introduce themselves to community members and talk to the local players they’ll be competing against.
‘We’re looking ... for your A game’
The Sunday event will feature the Hustle Up team versus the Dillon All-Stars with a half-time performance by Kendra and an autograph session following the game.
“It’s a fast paced game,” said Spyda, and a few local players might be selected to join the team on their next tour.
“We’re looking not for your B game, but your A game,” he said, speaking to the players in Dillon. “We want the best people in the city (and) if they can kill us (on the court), then kill us.”
